A natural saver from day one. Jakiya's financial discipline as a young Rugby 7's traveller carried through a code switch and pay cut, all the way to a real estate portfolio and a Winger of the Year award.

PROGRAM

Financial Wellbeing

In 2020, Jakiya began her professional sporting journey, representing Australia in Rugby 7s and travelling the world.
While others were quick to spend their travel allowances, Jakiya’s practical mindset saw her save instead. Galaxy Sport helped her build on those habits and create strong financial foundations early in her career.

THE PLAN

With a two-year financial forecast in place, Jakiya took her first step into property, using just $25,000 in deposits to secure two blocks of land off-the-plan worth approximately $500,000.
Those foundations were tested when Jakiya made the difficult decision to switch codes, taking a significant pay cut in the process. Rather than panic, she adapted — continuing to work, cover her expenses and save while pursuing her NRLW career.

THE RESULT

In 2023, Jakiya had a breakout year. She earned Australian selection, was named Dally M Winger of the Year and secured a three-year deal with the North Queensland Cowboys.
Off the field, she sold her first block of land for $90,000 above the purchase price and used the proceeds towards building an investment property on the second, creating an asset she plans to hold for long-term growth.
Today, Jakiya continues to work, save and give back through the Goanna Academy. As a Galaxy Sport Ambassador, she’s also passing on her financial wellbeing lessons to the next generation of NRLW athletes.
